Columbus Commons Grand Opening
This weekend has something for everyone and all events are free and open to the public
Columbus Commons, the new 9-acre park in the heart of downtown Columbus, will officially open on Thursday, May 26th kicking off a weekend of free events and activities for all in central Ohio to enjoy.
The weekend festivities start with a LIVE + LOCAL music showcase of Ohio bands and DJ’s on the Columbus Commons stage from 4pm-11pm on Thursday.  Official remarks from Mayor Michael Coleman, Franklin County Commission President Marilyn Brown, City Council President Andy Ginther and other dignitaries will occur at 6:30pm that evening. After the remarks, an official photograph of the stage and crowds will be taken from a nearby high rise to mark the occasion.
In addition to the staged entertainment, ReMAX will provide free Hot Air Balloon rides Thursday, 4-6:00pm; the tethered balloon will go up 100 feet in the air, weather permitting. Located at the southern end of the park, a GameTruck will be stationed from 4-8:00pm. This truck is designed to bring a 16-player video game experience featuring the latest games and most popular game titles.  Once again the fun is FREE!
Thursday, May 26th:
A LIVE + LOCAL music showcase on the Columbus Commons stage at 4:00:
-The events begin with DJ’s Matt Sexton & DJ NoBody
-Jimmy Jam, radio personality from WNCI, and Angela An, Newscaster from WBNS 10TV, will cohost and introduce the bands
-Spikedrivers will lead off the live performs at four 4:30
-Followed by New Hollow taking the stage at 5:20 and leading into our ribbon cutting ceremony and firework show 6:30
Speakers for the Opening ceremony include: Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Franklin County Commission President Marilyn Brown, City Council President Andy Ginther, AEP Chairman Michael G. Morris and Capitol South President Guy V. Worley.
-After the ribbon is cut the confetti will fly and the party will continue as New Hollow returns to the stage to debut their new hit song Airplane!  
-Lovesick Radio will take control of the stage at 7:00pm followed by
-The Floorwalkers at 8:00pm  
-The Websters at 9:00pm
-Naked Karate Girls will cap off the night on stage form 10:00-11:00pm
 Friday May 27th
-9am Commons for kids:  This will be the debut of our weekly children’s programs.  The beautiful carousel will also be in operation offering free rides.  The kids will also have the opportunity to go wild on various inflatable’s, and have costume made sculptures from the balloon artists.
-5pm Backyard Blues and Brews:  This evening we have brought together the opportunity for you to Sample local beer.  Local legend Sean Carney will also be in attendance.  Embrace your inner child as you battle your friends with Big Glove Boxing, Rock’em Sock’em Joust.  There will also be a Bungee Run and a Climbing Wall at the park for your enjoyment.
Saturday May 28th
-12pm All day Family Fun:  the Columbus Commons reading room will be open for the first time with celerity story time featuring Luck Fickell.  The family can also enjoy the carousel and petting zoo.  Experience the Phoenix Theatre for Children, a late night Screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and firework show to wrap of the evening.
Sunday May 29th
-2pm Garden Party: Enjoy tea as you tour the world-class Columbus Common Garden, hang out with Downtown Residents’ Association of Columbus, and participate in recreational games on the lawn with live entertainment
-8pm Shadowbox’s Back to the Garden:  Finish the weekend with a live performance from the Shadowbox Cabaret.
It’s going to be an amazing weekend jam-packed with all kinds of activities.  Come join us for four full days of entertainment, it’s all free, all fun, and all downtown!!
